A new amateur event is planned for the Chicago area this summer, June 21-June 29 and short hitters are welcome and encouraged. The Chicago Short Game Challenge expects over 5,000 amateur entrants are expected to compete for the title of Chicago Short Game Champion during the last week in June.

From June 21 through June 29 area golfers can qualify for the championship at 25 selected par-3 courses throughout the region. Each day all 25 facilities will host qualifying with two competitors from each site moving on to the Championship to be conducted June 29 at the Golf Center Des Plaines. A golfer can play in more that one qualifying round if they chose. A total of 600 short gamers will ultimately move on to the Championship round on June 29.

Additionally, the Short Game Challenge will include the Chicago Hole-In-One shoot-out. All players attempting to qualify who make an ace in their qualifying round will compete at the Championship for the opportunity to win $1million.

The Chicago Short Game Challenge is open to all golfers says Roger Yaffe, president of RMY Management Group, the event’s creator and management company.Yaffe noted that there are four divisions from which people may qualify: Juniors age 17 and under, Seniors age 50 and over and Women will each compete in their own divisions. The top four scores at each of the 25 qualifying sites over the six qualifying days will make the Finals on June 29 at the Golf Center Des Plaines.

The registration fee to qualify for the Championship and the shoot-out is $20 plus the cost of the host site’s green fee. Golfers may attempt to qualify as many times as they wish over the six-day period and the charge for each additional round is $10. A list of the participating facilities is included below; for more information on the Short Game Challenge call RMY at 312-551-0810.
