The Glen Club

This is a celebration of the best golf in Chicago. Over the next several issues Golf Chicago! will highlight what we believe are Chicago’s Elite—the top public courses in the area. These are the best of the best in design, playability, service, amenities, and overall experience. For the avid Chicago golfer, a game on any golf course is a good day, but golf on one of Chicago’s Elite is a day sent from heaven.

The Glen Club

We all know what it’s like to be young and in love. That’s exactly the overwhelming emotion in Glenview these days—The Glen Club is young and we’re in love!

The Tom Fazio design is just an infant (less than a year old) and Chicago golfers are already head-over-spikes. Not only has there been a remarkable transformation from the dead-flat land of the former Glenview Naval Air Station to lush, gently rolling fairways, but The Glen Club’s layout also has embraced the importance of playability. It can be brutal from the tips, but when attacked from the middle tees, The Glen Club remembers that golf is supposed to be fun.

The beauty of The Glen Club can’t be ignored. Thousands of trees have been carried onto the property, lakes created, terrain shaped and none of the work looks fabricated or forced. Considering how unremarkable this piece of property had been, the architectural artistry is nothing short of magic. Plus, the design gives you the opportunity to walk the course during your round with little effort.

The Glen Club was born out of the partnership of two big hitters in the golf world—KemperSports Manage-ment and Mike Keiser of Keiser Golf who is responsible for Bandon Dunes in Oregon, the new upscale golf resort. This relationship helped to bring the Illinois PGA Hall of Fame to The Glen Club’s 48,000 square-foot clubhouse and has given the IPGA a new venue for the Illinois Open. Plus, in 2003, The Glen Club will make its debut on the Golf Channel when it becomes the host course for the LaSalle Bank Open—a new stop on the BUY.COM Tour.

This grand facility has quickly become golf’s newest Mecca in the north suburbs and is certainly helping to take Chicago area golf to a higher level.

Yes, it is still just a baby, but one can’t help imagine what The Glen Club will be like when it’s all grown up.
