Orlando World Center Marriot
Impressive!

Is the best word to describe the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort & Convention Center.

This world class 1500-room resort is located about one mile from Disney World in the heart of America’s most popular vacation destination. An $88 million expansion and renovation project is nearing completion, including a complete redesign of the resort’s 6900 yard championship golf course, Hawk’s Landing. Golf Chicago! just come back from playing the Hawk’s Landing course and we can tell you that it’s in super condition and ready to play. Impressive also describes the redesign of their new pro shop and Steakhouse Grill, which was already ranked as one of the Top 100.

The course was re-worded by one of the hottest younger generation architects these days, Robert Cupp ll, and features large Tifdwarf Bermuda greens, water in play on fifteen of the eighteen holes, distinctive undulating fairways and four sets of tees for golfers of all skill levels.

Good news, this is one course where longer is not necessarily better. If John Daly and Tom Kite were playing, I’d have my money on Kite. You can get into a lot of trouble by smacking it too far.

Take for instance the short par-4 eighth hole. The smart play is a long iron off the tee. Big hitters are tempted to go for the green with their drive, but water and sand are hidden to the sides of the green and landing in there is an automatic double bogey, been there-done that. It’s just so darn tempting!!

Think fairway wood off the tee on most par-4’s and 5’s. One exception is the 425 yard dogleg left par-4 16th hole. You must hit a long, straight drive to clear the corner and have a shot at the green. Left here is either OB or bunker, with a chip out to the fairway the only option. Veering right lands you into palm trees and more junk you best stay out of. Your approach shot will require a medium to long iron to a green sloping from front to back with water right and behind. Enjoy!

Just hit it straight and away from the water and you’ll score very well at Hawk’s Landing. Of course if we could do that all the time we’d be on the Tour! It’s guaranteed you’ll have a great time here, so either way you win. More good news, unlike some resorts, the first tee here is only a wedge shot from the lobby of the hotel, so you can sleep in until right before your tee time, take the glass elevators down and be ready to go.

While playing golf in the morning, send the kids to the pool. Impressive again, is the only word to describe this tropically-designed pool....it’s huge! Over 300 palm trees (I counted then sipping a Mai-tai), waterfalls, five hot tubs and slides will keep the kids on a roll for the whole day. Supervised activities are also available for children ages five to 12. A cabana bar overlooks everything from above and is a perfect place to relax, watch the kids and enjoy life.

The resort’s health club, tennis and spa facilities also have undergone upgrading along with the addition of even more convention and meeting space. This place has more amenities than you can shake a wedge at!

I’ve been to three conventions here and I can’t think of a better location. 200,000 square feet of meeting space, a full-service professional staff, superb restaurants, championship golf, and Disney World, Sea World, Universal Studios all only minutes away.

For vacation or business the Orlando World Center Marriott Resort & Convention Center is indeed...Impressive!!!!!
